Michele was born and raised in North Wales, and is a 42 year old mother of two. Michele left school in 1983 and has had a broad and varied career path, enabling her develop a diverse range of skills. From humble beginnings at 15 working as a holiday camp chalet maid, she worked her way up to becoming the PA for the CEO of a Fleet Risk Management Company.
Michele's interest in politics was sparked by her involvement in a local lobby group against a proposed housing development, which not only gave her an insight into the complexities of the planning process but also how the local administration had failed to adequately represent the needs of local residents. This injustice inspired Michele to stand in the local elections and in May 2008, she was successfully elected as a Town Councillor in Flint Castle Ward, and found once the political bug bites there is NO turning back.
To help Michele in her new role, she enrolled onto the Women Making a Difference Project's Engendering Change course, which began an exciting journey of learning.
On completion, she went onto the next stage 'Women Into Public Life' an accredited Cardiff University course, and was one of only 8 women accepted to participate in the brand new Assembly funded initiative designed to fast track women into public by providing intensive training and support. As part of this training Michele role shadowed Kirsty Williams AM Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats.Michele has since become a trustee for two local voluntary organisations, Unllais, a North Wales Mental Health Organisation, and Flintshire Disability Forum. She is an active lobbyist, and extremely passionate about mental health and disability issues, and wants to ensure adequate policies and provisions are in place to protect and support the most vulnerable in society.
